EMERSON DRIVE BIOGRAPHY

It is an auspicious moment in the history of a band that began with a high school talent contest. On the bill was Brad Mates, an 11th-grader singing for the first time in front of an audience. In addition, Pat Allingham and his pal (and now Emerson keyboardist) Chris Hartman -- the two had been in school and church choirs together since kindergarten -- joined a few buddies to form an impromptu group doing an equally impromptu song. Allingham, Hartman and Mates quickly recognized their mutual talents and tastes, and the three soon formed a band with some classmates.

Mates had soaked up his dad's Don Williams and George Strait albums, as well as the hard rock favored by his junior high buddies. Hartman came from a large family who would sing harmonies around the kitchen table, and he also received classical piano training. Allingham, too, had a serious interest in music, playing classical violin from the age of 3 and performing in orchestras and at festivals during his growing-up years.

After playing some local gigs, the trio added bassist Jeff Loberg, guitarist Danick Dupelle and drummer Mike Melancon and called themselves Emerson Drive, taking their name from the Emerson Trail, which crosses western Alberta and joins the Alaskan Highway. They released their self-titled U.S. debut on DreamWorks Nashville in 2002 and cracked the Top 5 with "I Should Be Sleeping" and "Fall Into Me."

The current line-up of Emerson Drive features Mates, Melancon and Dupelle, as well as Patrick Borque, David Pichette and Dale Wallace. They released a second album on Dreamworks, What If, in 2004, but parted ways with the label following a corporate restructuring. They released the independent album, Countrified, in 2006.

Russell Roy is best known for his title as "The Bay Street Bad Boy."

Russell satirizes bureaucracy by impersonating industry experts, government officials, and employees. He has performed for many corporations, business associations, and at conferences.

In his corporate comedy act, Roy gives humorous "hoax" or "practical joke" speeches, allowing tension and confusion to rise, as he challenges authority by making authoritative, irreverent, and often confusing statements. Then he reveals his true identity and purpose (to entertain), much to the relief of the audience. The presentations run 30 to 45 minutes, and often end with a comedic "roasting" of high profile individuals in the organization.

Russell combines a sound knowledge of business and management issues, with a relaxed conversational style, and a warm, yet devilish personality.

He studied Business and Theatre at York University in Toronto, Improvisation at The Second City, and has been a working Stand Up comedian since 1995. He worked in Sales and Account Management at a large multinational firm before entering the speaking and entertainment business.

Currently residing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Russell is single and looking to mingle. He does however, have a huge mortgage to pay off, and 6 hungry children to feed, and could really use the money.

Trudeau’s wins 2011 vision award

Resort recognized for Milestone Achievement

Tweed — A business here took top honours at the 2011 Vision Awards presented by the Land O' Lakes Tourist Association last Thursday evening.
Casey Trudeau and his wife Cheri were this year's hosts for the awards held at Trudeau's Resort and Banquet Centre, Sept. 29.
Unbeknownst to them, they would also be the recipients of the evening's most prestigious award — the Milestone Achievement Award.
The Vision Awards, hosted every two years, recognizes businesses in nine member municipalities for their innovation, expansion, accessibility, determination to succeed and commitment to their community, said Land O' Lakes Tourist Association manager Rachelle Hardesty.
This year saw a huge number of nominations, she said. More than 100 nominations were filed, and of those, 88 were finalists. A business from each municipality took home this year's award, and one business —Trudeau's Resort and Banquet Centre — took home the top award for overall achievement.
"All nominations were worthy of recognition," Hardesty said before beginning the awards ceremony.
Tweed Coun. Justin Bray said he was honoured to present the top award to a long-standing, family-owned and operated business in Tweed.
Bray said since changing ownership in 2007, Trudeau's Resort and Banquet Centre has brought tourists to Tweed with its family-oriented events.
"They've brought in more than 10,000 people to their rodeo event, which is only in its second year," Bray said, adding the Dodge Ram Rodeo Tour at Trudeau's is the biggest in the circuit.

"They now attract families and visitors of all ages," he said.

Trudeau said he and his wife were elated to be this year's recipients of the Milestone Achievement Award.
"We're definitely excited. I think everyone who gets nominated for an award for a business they've put their heart and soul into is honoured — but winning on the other hand is even better," he said.
Trudeau said he's wanted to host the awards since he was last nominated and attended in 2007, and was happy to have the opportunity to be this year's location of choice for the dinner and ceremony.
The success of his business, he said, is owed to the support of his family and the community.
"I need to thank my wife and two boys," he said. "Our children are actually a lot of the inspiration for what we do here."
Trudeau said Tweed's local businesses work together and couldn't survive without the mutual support. He also thanked the municipal council.
"They've been really supportive, I can't wait to continue working with them in the upcoming years," he said.
Trudeau's Resort and Banquet Centre was one of 18 businesses nominated in the Municipality of Tweed.

Friday October 14th show will be an intimate and interactive style of show with a Theatre Style setup and will be family friendly with all ages welcome. This is Reserved Seating, and will be sold on best available basis.

Saturday October 15th will be a Cabaret Style setup complete with dance floor area and some table seating. This is a strictly 19+ show. This show is General Admission, No Seating is Reserved!

NORTHERN GIRL, TERRI CLARK ANNOUNCES 24-CITY CANADIAN TOUR

SHOWS TO INCLUDE MATERIAL FROM BRAND NEW ALBUM ‘ROOTS AND WINGS’

2011 CCMA FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR AND FANS’ CHOICE AWARD NOMINEE

Multi-platinum singer songwriter, Terri Clark will return to the road this fall for a 24-city cross-Canada tour that will include all of Clark’s hits along with many new favourites from her latest release, ‘Roots and Wings’. The fall trek launches on September 30th in Halifax, NS and wraps in Grand Prairie, AB at the Canada Games Arena on November 6th.

‘Roots and Wings’ is what Terri calls, the “most personal record” of her career. The album is an inspiring combination of emotion and shameless joy, reminding us that for every solemn moment, there is also celebration.

Clark says, “I’m really enjoying life and being happy again. That comes out on the record. There’s some pretty fun stuff on the album that I feel is emerging that hasn’t in the past few years.”

Beyond the millions of albums sold and an innumerable amount of awards and recognition lies a resilient, real talent. Terri Clark is one of the biggest names in Country music globally, but the Maple Leaf tattoo on her shoulder and love for all things related to her homeland are the most fitting introduction to the Medicine Hat-raised – “Northern Girl”.

“I’m embracing my roots, who I am, my old friends and family, and coming full circle in my life…choosing some songs with those themes for this album,” says Terri.”

The eight-time Canadian Country Music Award Fans’ Choice winner and multiple Juno Award winner announced in July that she’ll be performing on the live broadcast of the 2011 Canadian Country Music Awards on CBC Television from Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, ON, on September 12th at 8:00 p.m. ET (8:30 p.m. NT), with encore broadcasts on CMT. Clark is nominated for Fans’ Choice and Female Artist of the Year. Fans across the country can vote online at www.ccma.org for their favourite Fans’ Choice nominee – voting closes on September 9th.
